Warn Free wheeling hubs, with Heavy Duty inner and outer shafts
From running 35” tires and a front locker, the stock axles and U-Joint were not up to job. After breaking an axle shaft whilst out off roading I decided to spend the money and upgrade to a WARN free wheeling hub conversion. This conversion kit improves the vehicle's flat towing and reduces driveline wear by allowing you to disengage the front driveline completely whilst driving on the road, and can be engaged for 4wd. WARN high strength alloy axles help to increase front end strength and durability. In addition the wheel bearing is replaced with a serviceable unit. The standard wheel bearings are non serviceable, expensive and are easily ruined from off roading. The hub conversion increases track width by 3/4" per side. Full cast rotors must be purchased and the rotor pilot hole must be machined to 3.575 ± .015 before installation. The WARN axles are made from high strength 4340 chrome/nickel alloy, they are proven more robust than stock axles and will normally survive a U-joint failure WARN axles are machined to accept a full-circle retaining ring which reduces the possibility of a U-joint cap slipping out, a leading cause of U-joint failure. They also allow the owners of early Dana 30 front axles with 260x U-joints to upgrade to the more robust 297x U-joint. Fitting the hub conversion was very simple and straight forward once I took the disc rotors to a local machine shop to have the pilot hole machined out. The hubs are easily locked and unlocked, the steering is lighter on road. Now if I break a U-joint in the front driveline I can still drive home with the front driveline disengaged. I imported the hub kit from quadratec
